Photograph of Sapporo, Japan, taken by the ERTS-1 satellite at an altitude of 915 km on 29 August 1972.Three colours – green, red and infrared – observed and recorded separately by the ERTS-1 satellite were combined at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Centre (Greenbelt, Maryland). The following features can be made out (view the photograph horizontally): the Sea of Japan (top left), Muroran (bottom centre) and Sapporo in the centre.
