Description
Set of 2 colour photographs:
- 1 photograph of the Challenger shuttle, whose solid rocket booster (SRB) joints had been weakened by exceptionally cold temperatures (-5°) on the night before launch, caused by a high-pressure system originating in the Arctic that had extended as far as Florida. Ice stalactites formed overnight on the launch pad structures can be seen. NASA photograph, 20 × 25 cm, captioned on the reverse and numbered 108-KSC-386C-533/22.
-1 photograph of the Challenger shuttle a few minutes before launch. A small, suspicious plume of smoke can be seen at the base of the booster (SRB), on the right. NASA photograph, 20 × 25 cm, captioned on the reverse and numbered 108-KSC-386C-774-/36.
