This depiction of the city of Rouen reproduces a painting produced around 1525, which accompanied an important historical manuscript still held at the Rouen library, the *Livre enchaîné*, or *Livre des fontaines de Rouen*, by Jacques Le Lieur. Around 1840, the scholar and artist Théodore de Jolimont rediscovered and restored this painting, and published reproductions of it accompanied by a historical study.
