EGYPTIAN PAINTED WOODEN COFFIN PANEL OF NEFER-KA. Middle Kingdom, 12th Dynasty, Ca. 1994 - 1781 BC. A rectangular wooden coffin panel from the interior of a box-shaped coffin, assembled from several fragments. The surface is covered with a stucco ground and painted with a vertical hieroglyphic inscription naming Nefer-ka. Circular mounting holes for dowels are preserved at the top and along both long sides. Mounted in a modern frame. Inscription: On the front, framed by a multicoloured band, a line with a hieroglyphic inscription in black (above): "ImAk(w) Nfr-tp-KA" (" The Honourable Nefer-ka.") Below, in nine columns of black, a cursive (hieratic), fragmentarily preserved inscription with a text from the corpus of so-called coffin texts belonging to afterlife literature. Previously in an Antwerp Collection, acquired on the Paris art market. This piece is accompanied by an authentication statement from Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition. This item has a German export licence and comes with original paperwork from Galerie Gunter Puhze. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
