EGYPTIAN RED QUARTZITE BLOCK STATUE OF A PRIEST, POSSIBLY YUYA, PRIEST OF MIN AND FATHER OF QUEEN TI.
New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, Reign of Amenhotep III, Ca. 1391 - 1353 BC. A red quartzite block statue of a seated priest, the figure crouching with the arms folded over the knees drawn up beneath a long, plain skirt. The face is finely carved with almond-shaped eyes, arched brows, a straight nose, full lips, and large ears, beneath a smooth shoulder-length wig. A cheetah skin is draped over the back and shoulders, with the animal mask and forepaws falling onto the chest. The skirt is belted at the waist and extends over the legs, with a long triangular front pleat. An elaborate sporran hangs from the belt, carved with vertical elements and a rectangular lower panel. The back is inscribed with vertical columns of hieroglyphs. For similar see: Museo Egizio di Firenze, Florence, Inv. 1790; Musee du Louvre, Paris, inv. E 14241.
