Description
LARGE EGYPTIAN POLYCHROME SARCOPHAGUS LID. Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC. A wood anthropoid sarcophagus lid covered with gesso and painted, the interior left plain. The face is painted green, with inset stone eyes and bronze eyebrows beneath a striped tripartite wig. A broad painted collar spreads across the chest in concentric registers of geometric and floral ornament. A band of hieroglyphic text is inscribed at the foot. For similar see: P. Giovetti, D.
