EGYPTIAN INSCRIBED WOOD HEADREST OF NEFER - EX CHRISTIE'S. New Kingdom, Early 18th Dynasty, Ca. 1550 - 1450 BC. A wood headrest of Nefer (the Perfect One) from the funerary equipment, with a hieroglyphic inscription on the front and back. On the front, in the column running along the shaft, is a blessing formula invoking an unnamed deity to bestow "health and life upon the Ka (the personality or life force) of a deceased person named Nefer," with the epithet commonly used for the deceased: "one who renews life." On the back, in the column running along the shaft, is an offering formula, beginning with "A sacrifice that the king gives" and ending with the name of the village of This (Thinis), located in the 8th Upper Egyptian nome near Naga ed-Deir, thus allowing this object to be geographically located.
