Description
EGYPTIAN INSCRIBED WOODEN SARCOPHAGUS PANEL OF ANKH-SEMA-TAWY. Late Period, Ca. 664 – 332 BC. A wooden fragment from the sarcophagus of Ankh-sema-tawy ("Long live the uniter of the two lands [i.e., Egypt]"), carved with a sunk relief horizontal hieroglyphic inscription: "[..] (the god) Re, who shines daily in the face of Osiris, his beloved son, Ankh-sema-tawy, the Justified (i.e., the deceased as the person justified in the judgment of the dead). He is praised in the morning (and) appeased (him) in the evening, when the soul (Ba) of ?qA-crq (?) Ankh-sema-tawy, the son of the servant of the god (priest) [...]." The surface retains a stucco coating with traces of paint. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number EA22813,b.
