Description
EGYPTIAN BRONZE OPENWORK SCEPTRE FINIAL WITH CROWNED APIS BULL.
Late Period to Ptolemaic Period, Ca. 664 - 30 BC.
A bronze openwork finial formed as a papyrus column surmounted by a pedestal supporting a recumbent Apis bull with the legs folded beneath the body. The bull wears a headdress composed of a sun disc with uraeus set between the horns and flanked by ostrich feathers.
Size: 110mm x 60mm; Weight: 185g
Provenance: From a private London collection; earlier held in an old family collection formed over the period 1960s–2000.
This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
