Description
RARE ATTIC BLACK-FIGURE LEKYTHOS WITH ERINYES.
Ca. 520 - 480 BC. A black-figure lekythos with a ring foot and a tall, rounded body below a broad shoulder, a slender neck, and a flaring mouth, with a strap handle rising from the shoulder to the neck. The shoulder is decorated with palmettes beneath a dotted band and above a lattice frieze. The body shows Erinyes in motion, one holding an animal by the leg, above a band of meander and cross motifs. For similar see: The Classical Art Research Centre, Vase Number: 63, 1025, 1737. Size: 270mm x 115mm; Weight: 640g Provenance: From a private London collection; earlier circulating on the Netherlands art market in the 1980s. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
