Description
VERY RARE APULIAN RED-FIGURE FISH PLATE WITH 15 SEA CREATURES.
Ca. 400 - 300 BC. A red-figure fish plate with a broad circular dish on a short stem, decorated with large fish, a cuttlefish, and a ray arranged around the central depression, with smaller fish and shellfish dispersed across the field. Details are added in white and dilute glaze. The outer wall is decorated with a laurel band. For similar see: The Cleveland Museum of Art, 1985.50. Size: 255mm x 70mm; Weight: 875g PProvenance: Private UK collection; aquired on the US art market; Previously in a Private Collection, Florida, acquired prior to 2008. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
