Description
GREEK RED-FIGURE KYLIX WITH ATHLETES.
Ca. 450 - 400 BC. A red-figure kylix with a broad shallow bowl set on a short stem and spreading foot, with a pair of horizontal loop handles. The tondo is enclosed by a band of meander and checkerboard squares and shows two nude athletes, one holding a strigil. The exterior is decorated in two registers, each with a woman between nude youths, with palmettes beneath the handles. For similar see: The Vatican Museum, Cat. 16558. Size: 340mm x 104mm; Weight: 615g Provenance: From a private London collection; earlier circulating on the Netherlands art market in the 1980s. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
