Description
GREEK BLACK-FIGURE OLPE WITH SYMPOSIUM SCENE.
Ca. 480 BC.
A black-figure olpe with a spreading foot, a bulbous body tapering to a cylindrical neck, and a broad flaring mouth, with a single handle joining the rim to the shoulder. The rim is encircled by a checkerboard band. The neck is decorated with bands of dots and a meander. The figured panel is enclosed by dotted vertical borders and shows a symposium scene with a banqueter reclining on a couch, attended by a standing figure playing the double flute.
