GREEK CHALCIDIAN TINNED BRONZE HELMET WITH CHEEK PIECES. Ca. 400 BC. A bronze Chalcidian helmet with a domed crown and a prominent horizontal ridge encircling the lower section. The front has arched openings for the eyes, separated by a short, projecting nasal guard extending from the brow. Hinged, separately made cheek pieces are attached behind the eye openings. The helmet curves down at the back into a broad, flaring neck flange with a sharply defined rim. Size: 320mm x 240mm; Weight: 680g Provenance: London private collection; Ex M Koenig, Belgium, 2000s; Previously in the collection of Alice Fünfschilling-Moser, 1970s-2000s, Switzerland; Ex, Jacques-Rene Fiechter collection, 1960s-1970s. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
