Description
GREEK CHALCIDIAN TINNED BRONZE HELMET WITH CHEEK PIECES. Ca. 400 - 200 BC. A tinned bronze Chalcidian helmet with a pointed skull and an offset horizontal band running around the circumference at brow level. The face is framed by two high-arching eye openings and a central nose guard. Large elongated cheek pieces are attached along the lower edge by a row of small hinges, and the rear rim is drawn down to form a shallow neck guard. Size: 320mm x 255mm; Weight: 830g Provenance: London private collection; Previously in a UK art gallery in the 2010's; Ex M Koenig, Belgium, 2000s; Ex Helmut Gernsheim, Switzerland and UK, 1980s-1990s; Previously in the Wladimir Rosenbaum collection, Switzerland, 1970s-1980s. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
