Description
ANCIENT GREEK BRONZE HELMET WITH HORNS OF ZEUS AMUN AND CHEEK PIECES.
Ca. 500 - 300 BC. A bronze helmet with a high rounded bowl, made of two halves riveted together at the centre and forming a short crest. A raised band runs around the lower edge, and the front is embossed with spiral motifs representing the horns of Zeus Amun above the brows, with smaller spirals at the back. A pair of hinged cheekpieces is attached below, each with a perforated edge for attaching a lining. Size: 270mm x 245mm; Weight: 665g Provenance: London private collection; Previously in a UK art gallery in the 2010's; Previously in the Hubertus Wald collection, Germany, 1980s-2000s. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
