ROMAN AGATE CAMEO OF THE BUST OF CARACALLA.
Ca. AD 198 - 211. A two-layer agate cameo carved with the bust of Caracalla on an oval ground. The emperor is depicted facing slightly to the left, with closely cropped curly hair, a broad face, and a heavy neck. He wears a cuirass and a paludamentum fastened at the shoulder with a circular brooch. For similar see: J. Spier, Ancient Gems and Finger Rings, Cat. 436.
