SUPERB ROMAN MOSAIC PANEL WITH PHILOSOPHER. Ca. AD 1 - 300. A mosaic panel centred with the bust of a bearded philosopher shown in three-quarter view, his head turned slightly and framed by a dark mantle drawn over the back of the head. The face is modelled in pink, cream, and grey tesserae. The portrait is enclosed within a square panel and framed by a broad geometric border composed of blue-grey and dark tesserae. Size: 650mm x 650mm; Weight: g Provenance: Private London Collection, acquired on the Austrian Art Market; Ex Austrian Private Collection; Ex. Swiss Art Market (1977). This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy. Original paperwork available.
