RARE ROMAN MOSAIC PANEL WITH SATYR.
Ca. AD 100 - 200. A mosaic panel with the bust of a satyr shown frontally, the face framed by curling hair bound with an ivy wreath. The facial features are broad and fleshy, with heavy-lidded eyes, full lips, and a broad nose. The bust is rendered in pink, red, cream, and dark tesserae against a light ground, with the contours of the face and hair strongly marked in dark outlines.
