VERY LARGE LATE ROMAN MOSAIC PANEL WITH A BUCOLIC SCENE.
Ca. AD 300 - 400. A mosaic panel with a standing shepherd in a short tunic, white stockings, and black boots, holding two birds. A tree appears at right, and the figure stands on a curving groundline within a light ground. For similar see: A. Belis, Roman Mosaics in the J. P. Getty Museum, fig. 5. Size: 1600mm x 1700mm; Weight: g Provenance: Private London Collection, acquired on the Austrian Art Market; Ex Austrian Private Collection; Ex. Jean-Loup Despras, Paris, France (1977). This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy. Original paperwork available.
