RARE ROMAN LEGIONARY IRON PUGIO.
Ca. AD 1 - 300. An iron pugio with a waisted blade tapering to a sharp point and raised midrib, set above a straight guard and a cylindrical grip with a central bulb, terminating in a flattened, rounded pommel, together with an iron scabbard fitted with paired suspension rings at the sides and a chape terminating in a disc-shaped finial. For similar see: Christie's, Live Auction 22771, Arms and Armour from the Mougins Museum of Classical Art, Part II, Lot 45. Size: 430mm x 100mm; Weight: 500g Provenance: London private collection; ex M. Ebnother collection, Switzerland (1980s). This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
