RARE VIKING SILVER ALLOY POMMEL WITH HORSEMAN. Ca. AD 900 - 1000. A silver alloy pommel cast as an armoured man seated on a horse above a curved base. The rider wears a tall cylindrical helmet and armour, and extends both hands towards the horse's head. The horse has an elongated body on short legs, with a bridle, a crinet, and side panels decorated with pellets. Size: 105mm x 100mm; Weight: 175g Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired on the German art market; Ex South German private collection, inherited from the consignor's father in the late 1990s. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy. This item has a German export licence. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
