SOUTH ARABIAN ALABASTER LION.
Ca. 100 BC - AD 100. An alabaster lion seated on a rectangular base, with the forelegs placed forward and the hind legs tucked to either side. The head has drilled eyes, a straight nose and a broad muzzle with whisker pads. The mane falls in smooth masses along the sides of the head. The long tail curves across the back and over the haunch. Size: 270mm x 190mm; Weight: 9kg PProvenance: Private London collection; Ex. UK private collection, 1990s; Previously in the Paul F. Walter collection, USA, 1970s-2000s. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
