SASANIAN ALABASTER RELIEF PANEL WITH HUNTING SCENE.
Ca. AD 500 - 600. An alabaster relief panel carved with a mounted hunter spearing his prey, the horse rearing above a hound below. The rider wears a crested helmet, mail shirt and loose trousers, his right arm extended with the spear. The horse is richly caparisoned, with patterned trappings and a spotted animal pelt across the body. A narrow border of fruiting vine runs along the lower edge. For similar see: E. Sangari, M. J.
