MESOPOTAMIAN STONE HEAD OF A WORSHIPPER WITH INLAID EYES AND BROW.
Ca. 2600 - 2200 BC. A stone head of a worshipper with a broad face carved in the round. The eyes are inlaid with blue lapis lazuli pupils and white sclerae, set within dark stone rims. A ribbed brow inlay arches above the right eye. The nose is prominent above a small, closed mouth with a faint smile. The back is hollowed, and a circular perforation appears at each side. Mounted on a custom-made stand. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 134300.
