MESOPOTAMIAN BRONZE WHETSTONE WITH BRONZE RAM-HEADED HANDLE.
Ca. 1st millennium BC. A long cylindrical whetstone with a rounded end, set into a bronze handle cast as a ram's head with a tapering muzzle, large almond-shaped eyes, and short ears. The neck is encircled by a patterned collar and surmounted by a suspension loop. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 128792. Size: 345mm x 65mm; Weight: 1.24kg Provenance: Private UK collection; ex Oxfordshire ancient art collection; ex Canadian collection, 1970s–2000.
