APULIAN RED-FIGURE EPICHYSIS WITH A SEATED MAENAD.
Ca. 400 - 300 BC. A red-figure epichysis with a spool-shaped body, domed shoulder, slender neck, oblique mouth, and high strap handle. The shoulder is decorated with a seated maenad on a pile of rocks, holding a phiale in her right hand and a mirror in her left, with tendrils and palmettes behind. The rim is ornamented with ovolo, the neck with strokes, and the lower body with laurel leaves. Size: 175mm x 110mm; Weight: 235g Provenance: From a private London collection; earlier circulating on the Netherlands art market in the 1980s. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
