Description
ETRUSCO-CORINTHIAN POLYCHROME OLPE. Ca. 620 - 580 BC. A polychrome olpe with a piriform body on a narrow moulded foot, a tall flaring neck below a broad mouth, and a single strap handle terminating in a pair of rotellas at the rim. Vertical panels decorate the shoulder. Around the body runs a frieze of stylised figures and rosettes between horizontal bands. The lower zone is painted with a scalloped band above a reserved panel with dark rays. For similar see: The National Museum in Warsaw, 237857 MNW. Size: 260mm x 155mm; Weight: 675g Provenance: London private collection; Switzerland acquisition; ex Geneva collection, late 1980s–early 2000s. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
