PAIR OF GREEK MEGARIAN WARE BOWLS. Ca. 200 - 100 BC. A pair of mould-made terracotta bowls, from left to right: a bowl with a plain vertical rim above a tall body tapering to a rounded base, a narrow moulded band encircling the wall at the mid-section, below which runs a frieze of almond-shaped protrusions, the lower body and underside covered with rows of pointed overlapping leaves radiating around a base medallion with a theatrical mask in relief; and a bowl with a plain vertical rim above a tall body tapering to a rounded base, a double moulded band encircling the wall at the mid-section, the lower body decorated with a continuous frieze of leaf motifs above radiating fern fronds arranged around a central medallion with a rosette in relief.
