COLLECTION OF ROMAN BRONZE ANIMAL FIGURINES.
Ca. AD 100 - 300. A collection of four bronze animal figurines, including, from top to bottom: a dog standing on a circular base, with the head lowered, the body held in a tense forward pose, and the tail curled up behind; a dolphin with a tapering body, pointed snout, circular eyes, broad side fins, and a pierced dorsal fin for suspension; a running dog in a stretched stride, with the forelegs extended forward, the hind legs pulled back, a lean elongated body, raised head, pointed ears, and short tail; and a seated dog upright on its haunches, with straight forelegs, a slightly lifted head, pointed ears, a narrow muzzle, and a collar at the neck. Size: 55mm x 45mm; Weight: 95g Provenance: Private London collection; ex German art market, 1980s.
