BYZANTINE GLAZED TERRACOTTA BOWL WITH FLORAL AND GEOMETRIC MOTIFS - EX ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM COLLECTION.
Ca. AD 1300 - 1500. A sgraffito terracotta bowl with a wide body tapering to a low pedestal foot, the exterior partly coated with a brown slip. The interior is divided into three petal-shaped compartments alternating with three pairs of triangular panels, each filled with stylised flowerheads in green and amber washes. Size: 170mm x 80mm; Weight: 355g Property of a central London gallery; Ex collection of James Alfred Brew (1923 - 2008), collected in Cyprus during the 1960s. Thence by descent to Elaine Brew.
