BYZANTINE GLAZED TERRACOTTA BOWL WITH TWO REGISTERS OF FLORAL MOTIFS - EX ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM COLLECTIO.
Ca. AD 1300 - 1500. A sgraffito terracotta bowl with a deep body on a low pedestal foot. The exterior is decorated with a broad band of alternating green and amber panels. The interior is centred by a multi petalled rosette enclosed within concentric bands. Size: 145mm x 85mm; Weight: 420g Provenance: Property of a central London gallery; Ex collection of James Alfred Brew (1923 - 2008), collected in Cyprus during the 1960s. Thence by descent to Elaine Brew. Discovered in Elea. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
