BYZANTINE GLAZED TERRACOTTA BOWL WITH GEOMETRIC MOTIFS - EX ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM COLLECTION. Ca. AD 1300 - 1500. A sgraffito terracotta bowl with a deep body on a low pedestal foot, the exterior partly coated in lustrous amber glaze. The interior is decorated with a central lattice panel flanked by scrolling tendrils, highlighted with green, amber, and brown splashes. Size: 155mm x 85mm; Weight: 405g Provenance: Property of a central London gallery; Ex collection of James Alfred Brew (1923 - 2008), collected in Cyprus during the 1960s. Thence by descent to Elaine Brew. Discovered in Elea. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
