BYZANTINE GLAZED TERRACOTTA FOOTED BOWL WITH CENTRAL SHIELD - EX ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM COLLECTION.
Ca. AD 1300 - 1500. A glazed terracotta footed bowl with a deep, rounded body on a tall pedestal foot. The interior is centred by a shield-shaped panel outlined in manganese brown and subdivided by cross-hatched lines, filled with green and amber washes and framed by splashes of colour around the well. Size: 90mm x 80mm; Weight: 180g Property of a central London gallery; Ex collection of James Alfred Brew (1923 - 2008), collected in Cyprus during the 1960s. Thence by descent to Elaine Brew.
