BYZANTINE COARSE WARE TERRACOTTA OIL CUP. Ca. AD 1300 - 1500. A coarse ware terracotta oil cup with a shallow circular body and a thickened rounded rim decorated with repeated crescent impressions. The interior is ornamented with radiating combed grooves arranged in fan-shaped segments around a central projection, with a wavy band below the rim. Size: 155mm x 50mm; Weight: 415g Provenance: Property of a central London gallery; Ex collection of James Alfred Brew (1923 - 2008), collected in Cyprus during the 1960s. Thence by descent to Elaine Brew. Discovered in Elea. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
