PAIR OF BYZANTINE GLAZED TERRACOTTA BOWLS WITH CENTRAL MOTIFS - EX ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM COLLECTION. Ca. AD 1300 - 1500. A pair of sgraffito terracotta bowls, from left to right: a complete bowl with a deep rounded body on a low pedestal foot and a thickened rim, the interior decorated with a stylised bird with scattered green and amber washes; and a large wall and base fragment, decorated with scrolling vegetal motifs in green and yellow, with stippled infill and framed by broad bands. Size: 115-130mm x 55-100mm; Weight: 395g Provenance: Property of a central London gallery; Ex collection of James Alfred Brew (1923 - 2008), collected in Cyprus during the 1960s. Thence by descent to Elaine Brew. Discovered in Elea. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
