Ca. AD 700 - 900. A bronze weight of circular form, with a raised rim and a recessed central field engraved with gamma for ounce and beta as a numerical symbol for 2 beneath a cross, within concentric borders comprising a hatched inner circle and an outer ring of pointed forms. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 2002.213.4. Size: 35mm x 35mm; Weight: 55g Provenance: Private London collection; previously on the French art market during the 1970s–1980s. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
