Description
KASHAN GLAZED POTTERY EWER WITH BIRD-HEADED SPOUT. Ca. AD 1200 - 1220. A blue-glazed pottery ewer with a piriform body on a short foot, a tall tapering neck, and a strap handle joining the shoulder to the rim. The mouth is formed as a moulded cock’s head with a curved beak and projecting wattle. The body is painted in black with scattered dotted and foliate motifs, with bands of ornament at the lower body and neck. The handle is painted with a chain of linked lozenges.
