Description
RENAISSANCE MARBLE CHALICE WITH RELIEF DECORATION. Ca. AD 1500 - 1700. A light marble chalice with a deep cup on a spreading foot, mounted on a stone base. The foot is carved with an egg-and-dart band, a striped moulding, and a ribbed upper section. The lower body is decorated with imbricated leaves. Above, the bowl is encircled by a broad relief frieze of scrolling foliage and flowers. The rim is formed by a garland band set between two mouldings. Mounted on a stone base. Size: 130mm x 100mm; Weight: 755g Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired on the German art market; Previoiusly in an old Franconian collection of the 1960s/70s. This item has a German export licence. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
