BRONZE AGE HORSE BIT WITH RAMPANT FELINE CHEEK PIECES AND INLAID EYES.
Ca. 1200 - 800 BC.
A bronze horse bit with a transverse mouthpiece passing through the circular openings at the centre of a pair of openwork cheekpieces, each cast in the form of two confronted rampant felines with blue inlaid eyes and open jaws, their elongated bodies set on bent legs above a straight lower bar.
Size: 150mm x 105mm; Weight: 415g
Provenance: Private UK collection; previously part of an Oxfordshire ancient art collection; acquired from a Canadian collection formed between the 1970s and 2000.
