BRONZE AGE BRONZE SCEPTRE WITH MASTER OF ANIMALS.
Ca. 1200 - 800 BC. A bronze openwork sceptre above a baluster-shaped socket, formed as a pair of confronted felines, possibly lions, with arched necks, open jaws, and slender bodies tapering to long legs ending in curled feet, flanking a central human mask. A slender pin with lateral knobs projects above the group. Size: 395mm x 80mm; Weight: 820g Provenance: Private UK collection; ex Oxfordshire ancient art collection; ex Canadian collection, 1970s–2000. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
