MESOPOTAMIAN STONE RIBBED MACE.
Ca. 2200 - 1500 BC. A stone ribbed mace head carved as an ovoid bulb with deep vertical flutes, mounted on a wood shaft passing through the centre. A narrow binding collar encircles the junction between the head and the shaft. Size: 440mm x 80mm; Weight: 550g Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired in France; formerly with A.D. 1970s–1980s. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
