Description
INDUS VALLEY TERRACOTTA JAR WITH IBEXES FLANKING TREES.
Ca. 2200 - 1900 BC. A terracotta jar with a globular body tapering to a flat base and a short cylindrical neck with an everted rim. The body is decorated with two confronted pairs of ibexes flanking stylised trees. Above runs a hatched wavy band, surmounted by a frieze of small ibexes encircling the shoulder. Size: 240mm x 240mm; Weight: 3.54kg Provenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market in the 1990s. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
