ROMAN TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP WITH GLADIATORIAL EQUIPMENT.
Ca. AD 1 - 400. A terracotta oil lamp of Loeschcke IV; Bailey B group ii type, with a circular body, a recessed discus with concentric ridges, a plain shoulder, and a rounded nozzle flanked by volutes. The discus is decorated with gladiatorial equipment, comprising two pairs of crossed greaves, two helmets, and two sets of swords, around a central filling hole. For similar see: The J.
