Description
SAFAVID TINNED COPPER PLATE.
Ca. AD 1600 - 1700.
A tinned copper plate with a shallow central well and a rounded underside. The interior is densely engraved with concentric bands of ornament, the cavetto and rim filled with scrolling foliage and cartouches containing calligraphic panels. At the centre is a large sectioned medallion enclosing further foliate and calligraphic decoration.

Provenance: London private collection; Germany acquisition; ex Toussaint collection, Holland (1980s–1990s).
