RARE MESOPOTAMIAN COPPER ALLOY DEER-SHAPED KOHL VESSEL.
Ca. 1400 - 1000 BC. A copper alloy kohl vessel in the form of a recumbent deer on a rectangular base, the legs folded beneath the body, the head held upright with a slender muzzle, large eyes, and backward-curving horns. A short cylindrical spout with a flaring mouth projects from the back, framed by punched circles repeated along the edge of the base. Size: 75mm x 70mm; Weight: 170g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Switzerland; previously in the C.B. collection, 1970s–1990s
