PAIR OF CHINESE TERRACOTTA FEMALE DANCERS - TL TESTED.
Tang dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907.
A pair of terracotta female dancers, each standing in a swaying pose with the body bent sharply back, and the head tilted upward. Both wear long robes with high waists and flaring skirts, with one arm raised above the shoulder and the other extended downward. The hair is dressed in a high coiffure with looped knots. Traces of red, white, and black pigment remain on the garments and heads.

Provenance: From the private collection of a Somerset gentleman; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1990s on the UK /European art markets.
