Description
AMARNA PERIOD PAINTED POTTERY JAR WITH PAPYRUS AND LOTUS MOTIFS Ca. 1353 - 1335 BC.
A pottery jar with a globular body narrowing to a tall cylindrical neck with a thickened everted rim. The neck is encircled by horizontal bands in red, blue and black, with a frieze of upright blue petals alternating with red stamens. The shoulder is decorated with a broad register of tall blue papyrus stalks with spreading umbels, alternating with red lotus buds on slender stems. The main register is enclosed above and below by narrow horizontal bands in black, blue and red. The lower body is left plain.
