Description

VERY RARE EGYPTIAN WOODEN FIGURINE OF A STANDING WOMAN WITH FAIENCE COLLAR New Kingdom, Ca. 1390 - 1290 BC. A wooden figurine of a woman standing frontally upon a rectangular base with her left foot advanced, her slender waist and elongated limbs balanced by rounded breasts, hips and thighs. The separately fashioned arms are attached at the shoulders, the surviving hand hanging beside the thigh with its fingers individually defined. Her oval face is framed by a broad, tiered wig composed of closely carved rectangular locks, with dark pigment retained within the recessed divisions. Almond-shaped eyes prolonged by cosmetic lines, a short straight nose, full lips and a firm chin lend the features a composed expression, while a large annular earring appears beneath the wig. The navel is drilled and the pubic triangle indicated in dark pigment. The figure is now fitted with an associated necklace comprising four yellow-glazed faience pendants of fruit-like form, blue-glazed collars and smaller coloured spacer beads. The surface retains areas of smoothing and dark pigment, together with pale deposits, minor losses and wear consistent with age.
