Description
LARGE CANOSAN TERRACOTTA BUST OF DEMETER Ca. 300 - 200 BC. A large hollow terracotta bust of Demeter wearing a finely pleated chiton fastened at the shoulders and gathered beneath the breasts. Her oval face is framed by centrally parted hair swept back in rippling strands, with heavy lidded eyes beneath arched brows, a long straight nose and a small closed mouth. A wreath of leaves, fruit and rosettes crowns her head. A broad band encircles the left upper arm and a coiled armband adorns the right. Two vent holes are present at the back.
